Beskrivning
Trogir is about (61 km) from Šibenik and only (27 km) from Split, and has a little more than 10,000 inhabitants. Trogir was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997 and is home to a number of fascinating historical sights, the best of which is the Cathedral of St. Lovre. The proximity of Split Airport also means that Trogir is very easily accessible.

Arrival in Trogir
As mentioned, the nearest airport is Split Airport - the city is actually only 3 km from the airport. There is actually a direct bus from the airport to Trogir bus station – local bus line 37 – which stops on the road outside the airport (ie not in front of the terminal building); travel time is only 10 minutes.

History
Although findings in the local area indicate that settlements on the site of Trogir must have existed in prehistoric times, the history of the city actually begins with a Greek settlement in the 3rd century BC. Greeks from the island of Vis founded the settlement of Tragurion, which later became part of the Roman Empire, which at that time was expanding through Dalmatia.
Trogir fell under Hungarian and Croatian rule during the next few centuries, including the reign of the Croatian-Hungarian king Bela IV. 1242. In 1420, again like most of Dalmatia, it became part of the Venetian Empire, until the fall of the Empire in 1797. Trogir then became part of the Austrian Empire (with a short French occupation in the first years of the 19th century).
