Malö 46 (2007)

Here’s a rare opportunity for the next blue water sailor. A Malö 46 Classic currently in Portugal on her way north. Me, the owner, have plans to sail her back to the Baltic Sea in August. But I have come to realize that she might be a size too large for our sailing plans in the Baltics so she can be delivered to a new owner anywhere between Lisbon and Stockholm in Aug-Sept. Malö yachts are cousins to Hallberg-Rassy, just a bit better (me as a former HR43 owner can say this without blinking). Built on the same island (Orust) off the west coast of Sweden a few miles from the Hallberg-Rassy wharf, the Malö yachts are lookalikes and equally highly regarded by Nordic sailors. This Malö 46 was built 2007 for its first demanding owner to a higher price than the same size HR43 or HR46 would have cost at the time. The finish and the attention to detail are the same. Many interior parts are identical. The main difference is that the Malö boats have a size larger deck equipment which makes them even better prepared to cross oceans right from start, plus a Yanmar turbo engine instead of HR’s preferred Volvo Penta. And with a hull speed at 9.5 knots she leaves most boats of the same size behind under sails. This boat had a demanding first owner (for which this was his second Malö), who sailed it in Nordic short seasons for 10 years, and for 8 months per year stored it inside in a heated hangar. The second owner from Finland (a former Whitbread race sailor) upgraded the boat further to allow him to take his family and friends on another circumnavigation. For the seriously interested there are of course more, lists of the fitted equipment as well as everything else that will come with the boat (dinghy, safety equipment, fishing gear, tools, spare parts etc). All essential expensive parts the engine, batteries, cutless bearings, windlass has either recently been serviced or replaced. The standing rig is new since 2018 and the main and genua sails new from Elvstrøm this month. A complete survey report from 2022 Nov/2023March (in and out of the water) attests to the boats very good condition.
